Our Educational Philosophy

Learning That Honors Childhood

At Kane Street Kids, we believe childhood is a time of wonder, curiosity, and joyful discovery. Our educational philosophy is grounded in the understanding that young children learn best through meaningful relationships, purposeful play, and hands-on experiences that are responsive to their individual development.

We recognize that every child develops at their own pace. Rather than focusing solely on academic milestones, we intentionally nurture the whole child, supporting cognitive, social-emotional, physical, language, and creative development every day.

Research-Based, Child-Centered Learning

Our program is guided in part the Creative Curriculum®, a widely respected, research-based framework that supports intentional, developmentally appropriate teaching. Through engaging studies and investigations, children build foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts while exploring topics that are meaningful and relevant to their lives.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we view children as capable, curious, and full of potential. Our educators carefully observe children's interests and questions, then thoughtfully design experiences that extend learning through exploration, conversation, and play.

Building Skills for School and for Life

Children develop essential academic foundations through rich language experiences, storytelling, early literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific inquiry, and creative expression. Equally important are the social-emotional skills that help children become confident learners and caring community members. Throughout the day, children practice communication, collaboration, empathy, problem-solving, self-regulation, and independence.

By intentionally balancing academic learning with social-emotional growth, we prepare children not only for Kindergarten, but for lifelong learning.

Observation and Assessment

Observation is at the heart of our teaching.

Our educators use Teaching Strategies Gold® as an ongoing assessment system to document children's growth and plan meaningful experiences that reflect each child's strengths, interests, and developmental needs.

In accordance with guidance from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, we also use the Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) to partner with families in monitoring developmental progress and social-emotional well-being.

Through ongoing observation and strong partnerships with families, we strive to ensure that every child feels known, supported, challenged, and successful.
